Vladimir Putin described relations between Russia and Algeria as long-standing and reliable, going so far as to call them an “alliance”, at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit in Moscow on 27 October 2026. The Russian president also called on exporting countries to strengthen their cooperation, according to a video broadcast by Sputnik.
In Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin described Algeria as a Russian “ally” on Tuesday, 27 October, during the 8th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. “Relations between Russia and Algeria are long-standing, reliable relations, relations of alliance,” he said in a video broadcast by Sputnik.
Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, attended the summit and read his speech to the delegations. Putin also called on gas-exporting countries to strengthen their cooperation rather than erect barriers. Algeria hosted the forum’s previous summit in March 2024, which resulted in the Algiers Declaration. The Kremlin leader had already described Algiers as a close ally on 15 October, at the “Russia of Business” congress, according to Sputnik.
The statement comes after Sifi Ghrieb represented Tebboune at the gas and Russia-Africa summits, announced on 26 October. It also comes on the day Tebboune referred to the Algiers Declaration at the gas summit in Moscow, on 28 October.
