Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune described natural gas as a “bridge” to the energy transition and a pillar of energy security in a speech read by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb in Moscow. He also highlighted the gas industry’s resilience amid crises and tensions between security of supply and climate goals, TSA reports.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presented natural gas as a “secure bridge” to the energy transition on Tuesday 27 October in Moscow, at the summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. His address was read by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb to heads of state and government, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, TSA reports.
Tebboune defended the role of gas in global energy security, saying recent crises had demonstrated the resilience of the gas industry. He said gas was a pillar of national economies, not an energy source used only in exceptional circumstances. The president also called for a fair and gradual energy transition that does not exclude developing countries.
The head of state called for a stable, consensual regulatory framework, arguing that unstable rules increase market volatility, discourage investment and undermine supplies. He notably defended fair valuation of gas in long-term contracts, as Algeria is among Europe’s main gas suppliers.
The message was delivered in Moscow by Sifi Ghrieb, who had already represented the Algerian president at the gas and Russia-Africa summits, according to information published on 26 October about the prime minister’s participation in the summits.
