Nigerian Baptist Convention president David Idowu is calling for an urgent investigation after a video circulated calling for weapons to kill Christians. He backed the Christian Association of Nigeria’s condemnation and urged authorities to protect religious freedom, according to Tribune Online.

The president of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Reverend David Idowu, has asked the federal government to quickly investigate a viral video in which young people call for ammunition to kill people described as infidels, particularly Christians attending churches. He condemned the threats and supported the position of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), according to Tribune Online.

David Idowu said the video could threaten religious freedom, national security and peaceful coexistence. He recalled that Nigerian citizens can practise the religion of their choice without intimidation or persecution and called on Christian organisations to strengthen security in churches and communities. The Baptist leader also urged Christians to remain steadfast in the face of threats and increase their prayers and fasting.

The call for an investigation comes after Shehu Sani called for the arrest of those threatening Christians on 26 October.
