Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has promised to complete the Bakassi deep-sea port and coastal highway in 2027 if he is re-elected in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. Represented in Calabar by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the head of state also promised to establish the Secretariat of the Gulf of Guinea in Cross River State, according to Leadership.

Kashim Shettima said completing these projects should open Cross River to regional and international trade, boost economic activity and create jobs. He also defended infrastructure completed in Nasarawa State, notably the Lafia bypass and the road linking Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe, according to Leadership.

The promise came after the presentation in Calabar on 3 November of Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms by Kashim Shettima. Tinubu’s economic reforms had then been defended ahead of the 2027 election.
