A dispute over administrative authority in the village of Bendjeri, in Chad's Nya department, left 16 people injured, three seriously, on Friday 6 November 2026. The victims were treated at health facilities in Doba, Miandoum and Bébédjia, and their lives are not in danger, according to Alwihda Info.
The confrontation was reportedly linked to the installation of two new village chiefs by the chief of Béro canton in a locality attached to Miandoum canton. Nya department secretary-general Sougui Daoussa Dicko ordered the arrest of two village chiefs and the dismissal of six others, with their flags removed, according to Alwihda Info.
The dispute over administrative authority and territorial boundaries between the Béro and Miandoum cantons has persisted for several years. A measure prohibiting the installation of chiefs in Bendjeri had been adopted in 2018-2019, after an initial attempt at a settlement, according to Sougui Daoussa Dicko. The situation is now under control and calm has returned, he said.
