Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, says President Bola Tinubu obtained a first-class degree in accounting from Chicago State University in the United States. He made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview with Channels Television, Punch reports.

Tunji Alausa, who says he lived in Chicago for nearly 30 years, said he had met several people who studied with Tinubu at the university. He also described the Nigerian president as a “genius” and defended his economic record, saying he had transformed a struggling country into a growing economy in three years.

The discussion also covered the number of children out of school and the level of poverty in Nigeria. The minister asked that the discussion remain focused on achievements attributed to Bola Tinubu. The president’s academic qualifications have been under public scrutiny since the controversy over his Chicago State University records during the challenge to the 2023 presidential election.
