Kaura challenges Sahabi Ya’u’s Zamfara victory

Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura says he won the APC primary for the Zamfara North senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general election. He accuses the electoral committee chairman of being abducted before announcing a result awarding victory to Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, reports Leadership.

Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, a senator and candidate for the APC primary in the Zamfara North senatorial district, says he won the party’s primary for the 2027 general election. He is therefore challenging the result declaring Sahabi Ya’u Kaura the winner, according to a statement reported by Leadership.

Tijjani Yahaya Kaura maintains that the majority of members of the electoral committee deployed by the APC’s national leadership collated the results and declared him the winner. He accuses the committee chairman of being abducted and then announcing a result alone in favour of Sahabi Ya’u, an allegation that has not been independently established.

The candidate disputes the validity of the announcement and calls on APC officials to respect what he says is the choice of members in Zamfara North. The primary had already been marked by disputes over the conditions under which it was organised and by disruptions attributed to thugs, reported by the Nigerian press on 1 and 2 November.

This dispute comes after disruptions to the APC senatorial primary in Zamfara, reported on 2 November. It follows the announced victory of Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, published on 3 November.
