According to statements gathered by Vanguard at the Nigeria Energy Summit, these solutions could improve supplies for households and businesses, particularly in rural areas.
Electricity sector experts have called on Nigeria to accelerate investment in solar energy and micro-grids to complement the national grid and improve supply, according to Vanguard. They spoke at the Nigeria Energy Summit held in Lagos.
Anshul Alankar, product manager at DEIF, said the national grid could not meet growing demand from households and businesses. He said micro-grids could serve local and rural areas without requiring major transmission infrastructure, while combining solar panels, batteries, generators and the national grid.
Moriam Jagun, executive director of Delmira Power Solutions, cited frequent grid collapses as one of the main difficulties. She advocated renewable energy systems as an alternative for households and businesses, while DEIF is developing devices designed to reduce fuel consumption and optimise batteries, Vanguard reports.
