Nigerian energy company itel Energy has warned against errors when installing and configuring solar equipment, which could cause failures or reduce performance. Its technical manager, Emmanuel Kumuyi, recommended using certified technicians and gave the advice during Nigeria Energy Week in Lagos, Punch reports.

itel Energy has warned Nigerian users of solar systems against installation and configuration errors that could cause equipment failures or reduce performance. Emmanuel Kumuyi, itel Energy’s national technical support manager, cited overloading, faulty protection devices and incompatibility between the output of the panels, inverter and batteries during Nigeria Energy Week in Lagos, Punch reports.

He recommends using certified engineers and checking the complete configuration before installation. Customers can report faults to a call centre, which forwards the cases to online engineers for assessment. When remote troubleshooting is impossible, a technician visits the site to determine whether a repair or replacement is required, according to Emmanuel Kumuyi.

Rotimi Thomas, managing director and co-founder of SunFi, a distributor of itel Energy products, believes that after-sales service is crucial for distributors, as customers also seek support with repairs and replacements. Coverage depends on the warranty applicable to the product, itel Energy says.

The warning follows itel Energy’s commitment to repair solar equipment within 48 hours, announced on 2 November.
