Nigeria has allocated 10 billion naira to prepare for and respond to several health threats, not Ebola alone, according to P.M. News and Daily Trust. NCDC director-general Jide Idris said the funds cover cholera, Lassa fever and diphtheria among other diseases, and represent about 2% of the annual needs of the national health security plan.

Idris said the 10 billion naira had been paid directly to the NCDC, rather than to the presidential Ebola task force responsible for coordinating the national response. The 2025-2029 health security plan uses a ‘One Health’ approach and brings together ministries, public agencies, development partners and civil society organisations, according to Daily Trust.

The NCDC director-general called on political leaders, the media and development partners to support sustainable and accountable funding for the health system. He said the previous plan had been held back by insufficient funding, according to Daily Trust.
