The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water has commissioned a network intended to secure water supplies for five local authorities in Morocco’s Zagora province. The project includes 105 kilometres of pipelines and reservoirs and cost 107 million dirhams, according to an ONEE statement.
The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has commissioned a 107 million dirham drinking water supply network in Zagora province, Morocco. The inauguration took place on Monday in the presence of the province’s governor and ONEE representatives, according to MAP, citing a statement from the Office.
The network is expected to serve around 54,000 people in five local authorities: Tamegroute, Fezouata, Ktaoua, Tagounite and M’Hamid El Ghizlane. It draws on surface water from the Agdez dam, ONEE said.
The project includes a 105-kilometre pipeline from the city of Zagora, two reservoirs with capacities of 500 and 250 cubic metres, a pumping station with a flow rate of 2,000 cubic metres a day, and a pressure-break tank. It is part of the National Programme for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020–2027, whose agreement was signed on 13 January 2020.
The commissioning follows the announcement of the inauguration of the 107 million dirham drinking water project in Zagora, published on 2 November. The network is also expected to support the region’s socio-economic and tourism activities, according to ONEE.
