Egypt is building a 341-kilometre railway line between Bir al-Abd, Arish and Ras El-Naqab, near Taba Airport, to extend the national network in Sinai, Daily News Egypt reports. Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir inspected the works, including the 83-kilometre section linking Bir al-Abd to Arish, where embankment works are progressing and track-laying has begun in some places.
Eleven Egyptian companies are taking part in the project. It also includes two 12-kilometre branch lines to Arish Port and a cement factory, as well as seven stations, nine road bridges, one railway bridge and two tunnels.
The line is part of the 500-kilometre railway project linking Firdan, East Port Said, Bir al-Abd, Arish and Taba. It is intended to carry passengers and goods, connect Sinai’s residential, industrial and mining areas to the national network, and facilitate the transport of products to the ports of Arish and Taba. The first 100-kilometre section, between Firdan and Bir al-Abd, was inaugurated in 2025.
