Guinea’s Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté defended President Mamadi Doumbouya’s energy record on Thursday 5 November in response to criticism from MP and former minister Ousmane Kaba. During a meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Guinea, he said the president had taken power in 2021 in a country without electricity, reports Guinee360.
Ousmane Kaba had earlier questioned Guinea’s electricity exports in the National Assembly while residents still face difficulties accessing power. The MP had also reported an explanation from Energy Minister Laye Sékou Camara that the export commitments had been inherited from previous administrations.
In his remarks, Morissanda Kouyaté also cited the Kaléta and Souapiti dams, two hydroelectric facilities built under the presidency of Alpha Condé, in his defence of Guinea’s energy record. The minister directly criticised Ousmane Kaba for his remarks before MPs.
