More than 30 bodies believed to be those of bandits were found after a clash with security forces in Bukkuyum, Zamfara State, in north-western Nigeria. Police say the attackers fled with gunshot wounds and operations are continuing in the area, according to Xinhua.

More than 30 bodies believed to be those of suspected bandits were found in fields in Bukkuyum, Zamfara State, after an attack was repelled by Nigerian security forces. The attackers had clashed with officers on 28 October while trying to attack the town, Zamfara police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar told Xinhua on Sunday.

Most of the attackers fled with gunshot wounds after the exchange of fire, according to Yazid Abubakar. The bodies were recovered several days later by security forces and residents, while operations continued in Bukkuyum to dislodge armed groups active in the area.

In February, gunmen travelling on more than 150 motorcycles attacked a community in Bukkuyum, killing at least 50 people and abducting dozens of women and children, according to Zamfara police.
