Gabon examines VAALCO Energy’s oil royalties and contracts

Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema met VAALCO Energy executives on 28 October 2026 as an official audit examines the US company’s oil royalties and contractual commitments. The review concerns the operator, which has been present in Gabon for 25 years, Gabonclic reports, citing Inside News 241.

Gabon is examining VAALCO Energy’s oil royalty payments and compliance with its contractual commitments. The US operator has been present for 25 years at the Etame Marin complex. Preliminary findings from a state-commissioned audit were at the centre of a meeting held on 28 October 2026 between Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and the Texas-based group’s management, according to Inside News 241.

VAALCO Energy highlights the presence of 90% Gabonese workers in its local workforce to defend its socio-economic record. However, according to information reported by Inside News 241, this argument does not answer the questions raised by the audit about the operator’s financial and contractual obligations.
