The publication aims to make research accessible to citizens and decision-makers and inform debate on mining transparency, according to its organisers.

Université Nouveaux Horizons, the Carter Center and the Centre for Research in Public Finance and Local Development (CREFDL) presented on 27 October in Lubumbashi an issue of the journal *Science, Technology and Society* devoted to mining royalties and the management of natural resource revenues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Actualité.cd reports.

The publication aims to make scientific research accessible to citizens, civil society organisations and public decision-makers, to fuel debate on transparency and the effective management of extractive revenues. The Carter Center is providing technical and logistical support for the initiative. Fabien Mayani, a representative of the organisation, explained that the approach combines scientific research and public outreach to help a wider audience understand the management of mineral resources.

The journal examines the mechanisms for collecting, distributing and using revenues, the challenges involved in implementing them, and reforms that could improve the benefits of mining for the country’s development. The discussion comes as the DRC prepares a foreign exchange reform to capture more mining revenue, announced on 13 October.
