At least five people have been killed in clashes between armed forces from Ethiopia’s Somali and Oromia regions, according to the Acled NGO, cited by RFI. The fighting, linked to territorial disputes in southern Ethiopia, has continued for several days and is affecting neighbouring Kenya.
More than 10,000 Ethiopians had fled to Kenya by Friday 23 October, according to the Kenyan Red Cross, cited by NTV. However, the commissioner of Kenya’s Marsabit County told RFI on Saturday that 36,000 people had arrived in the border town of Moyale.
This new wave of displacement comes after the Kenyan Red Cross assisted 1,000 families fleeing Ethiopia, announced on 23 October.
