Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama described the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa as an “open marketplace of ideas” at the opening of its 12th edition on Saturday 24 October 2026 in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. He invited participants to debate freely the continent’s peace, governance and development crises in order to develop African-led solutions, according to Fanamc.
Mahama, who has chaired the Tana Forum’s board for nearly nine years, called on delegates to turn their discussions into concrete results. He stressed the need to narrow the gap between policy-making and implementation, drawing on African experiences and priorities.
This edition’s proceedings are being held over two days. The Ghanaian president also advocated peace based on African ownership, sovereignty and the continent’s ability to mobilise its own resources, according to Fanamc.
