Bruno Fernandes remained on the bench during Manchester United’s 3-0 Premier League defeat by Bournemouth. The decision came after his criticism of manager Michael Carrick and extended the club’s winless run to eight matches, according to BBC Sport.
Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s Portuguese captain, started on the bench on Sunday in the 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Manager Michael Carrick described the decision as a “footballing decision” before the match, according to Sky Sports, while BBC Sport reports that the midfielder had been dropped after criticising the coach’s tactical choices in the 4-1 defeat by Como in the Champions League.
Harry Maguire wore the Manchester United captain’s armband, with Mason Mount and Youri Tielemans paired in the attacking midfield. It was only the sixth time Fernandes had been a substitute for a Premier League match. Without him in the starting XI, United had won only one of their previous 10 league matches, drawing three and losing six.
The defeat by Bournemouth extended Manchester United’s winless run in all competitions to eight matches. Matheus Cunha came on at half-time, while Argentine defender Lisandro Martínez, rested because of an injury risk, played the second half, according to Michael Carrick.
