At a conference in Kinshasa, Albert Moleka called for realistic border cooperation between the DR Congo and its neighbours, including Rwanda. The former chief of staff to Étienne Tshisekedi urged a balance between dialogue, security and the defence of national interests at a commemoration of the assassination of Archbishop Christophe Munzihirwa, according to Mediacongo.
Albert Moleka, a former chief of staff to Étienne Tshisekedi and adviser to the Congolese Nobel Peace Prize laureate, called on 29 October for a “realistic” good-neighbour policy between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its neighbours, particularly Rwanda. He was speaking at a public conference at CEPAS in Kinshasa to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of Archbishop Christophe Munzihirwa.
“Border cooperation should not be naivety, but a policy of good neighbourliness,” Albert Moleka said. He called for an approach that reconciles dialogue, security and the defence of national interests, saying that “no biblical formula” could replace appropriate political decisions.
Christophe Munzihirwa, the former Archbishop of Bukavu, was assassinated on 29 October 1996. The conference held in his memory focused on regional peace, justice and coexistence among the peoples of the Great Lakes region.
