Women traders staged a protest in Kindia, Guinea, on Monday 2 November against the lease of their spaces at the main market, reports Africaguinée. The demonstration disrupted traffic: the traders erected barricades at several roundabouts before going to the town hall to demand their former stalls.
Hadja Marie Avarie, president of the women traders and merchants of Kindia, said that spaces previously occupied by the traders had been leased and built on. She called on Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya to intervene so they could resume their activities in those spaces. According to her, the traders continue to pay taxes while being forced to display their goods on the road.
