The Dakar High Court has ordered the lifting of the seizure of Cheikh Anta Diop University’s accounts, following a ruling that it pay 5 billion CFA francs to three expelled students. Provisional enforcement means the university retains access to its accounts, according to Seneweb.
The Dakar High Court ordered on Monday that the seizure of the accounts of Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) be lifted. The seizure had been initiated by three students seeking payment of 5 billion CFA francs. The court also ordered provisional enforcement of its decision and ordered Aliou Gningue, Cheikh Tidiane Diop and Mamour Diongue to pay the legal costs, reports Seneweb.
The three students were expelled from the Faculty of Economics and Management (FASEG) in 2016, after unrest on campus. On 28 September, the court sitting in chambers ordered UCAD to pay them 5 billion CFA francs; enforcement of the financial award will be the subject of separate proceedings, according to Seneweb.
In a second case heard on the same day, the judge sitting in chambers rejected all the claims brought against UCAD by former rector Ahmadou Aly Mbaye. He had sought, among other things, salary arrears linked to his role as director of WASCAL, as well as the return of office equipment and payment of a penalty. WASCAL is a West African centre dedicated to scientific services on climate change and adapted land use, reports Seneweb.
