The Federal High Court in Abuja will deliver its verdict on 27 January 2027 in the trial of Tukur Mamu, who is being prosecuted by the Nigerian government for terrorism financing. Judge Mohammed Umar set the date on Monday, after prosecution and defence lawyers adopted their final written submissions, ThisDay reports.
Tukur Mamu is accused of acting as a negotiator with kidnappers during the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack. He was arrested on 7 September 2022 at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian authorities and was initially charged with 10 counts related to terrorism financing. The prosecution later added charges of unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering, according to ThisDay.
His lawyer, Johnson Usman, asked for his acquittal on all charges. He argued that the prosecution had not submitted to the court the licence for the rifle allegedly found at his client’s home, while the government’s lawyer, David Kaswe, said the rifle and the licence had already been entered into the court record, ThisDay reports.
