The attempted murder trial involving Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala, his wife Tsakane Matlala and their co-accused has been postponed to Thursday 5 November by the Johannesburg High Court. Judge Cassim Moosa adjourned Monday’s hearing to allow Nthabiseng Nzama, the fifth accused, to undergo an examination on Tuesday, South African daily Sowetan reports.
The accused face several charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering. Proceedings are currently focused on the admissibility of evidence provided by state witnesses.
During the hearing, medical expert Professor Gert Saayman answered questions about the medical records of Musa Kekana, who claims he was assaulted by police officers after his arrest in April 2024. The adjournment is also intended to allow Dr Du Toit, who examined him after his arrest, to consult the defence before testifying on Thursday, according to Judge Moosa, as quoted by Sowetan.
