He also says he chose colleagues for their ability to make difficult decisions rather than their qualifications, in a statement reported by Senego ahead of the Games.
Diagna Ndiaye, president of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (COJOJ), says he receives no salary or benefits related to his role. He says he pays for his own fuel, hotel and air travel, according to remarks broadcast by Senego on 1 November 2026.
The Senegalese official also says he prioritised the ability to make difficult decisions when recruiting teams, rather than qualifications or technical skills. He says the COJOJ created an ethics committee to prevent suspicions and strengthen transparency in the organisation’s management, according to Senego.
The statement comes the day after the opening of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, held on 1 November, and after Ousmane Sonko welcomed participants, an announcement made on 31 October.
