Uganda and Ghana are exploring partnerships in tourism, film and trade following discussions between tourism officials and private-sector players from both countries, Nile Post reports. The talks covered joint promotion of their destinations, sports and religious tourism, and opportunities for trade cooperation.
The direct air link between Entebbe and Accra, operated by Uganda Airlines, could facilitate travel and exchanges between businesses. The Ugandan delegation was led by Ron Kawamara, vice-chairman of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), and included its director, Olive Lumonya, as well as representatives of the tourism sector.
Participants cited the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania, as an opportunity to promote destinations in the region. They also discussed promoting the Ugandan Martyrs’ Trail to Ghanaian visitors and familiarisation trips for Ghanaian tour operators.
The discussions also covered film partnerships and Ugandan tourism promotion platforms, including the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo. The talks are part of efforts to establish new cooperation between East and West Africa.
