Ugandan parliamentary delegation leader Jacob Marksons Oboth has proposed strengthening parliamentary ties with Russia to increase Ugandan coffee exports. He said Russian demand for the product presented an opportunity to expand trade, Nile Post reports.
Oboth was speaking after a meeting with Russian State Duma members on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi. The two delegations exchanged invitations for visits to Kampala and Moscow. The Duma pledged to establish a group of MPs responsible for relations with Uganda, which could facilitate exchanges between members and staff of the two parliaments.
Oboth also mentioned limited trade with Thailand, another BRICS partner. In 2025, Uganda exported goods worth $383,530 to the country and imported goods worth $27.25 million, according to figures cited by the parliamentarian. The Ugandan delegation to the forum also included opposition leader Joel Ssenyonyi.
