Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s special assistant on foreign affairs, Ademola Oshodi, rejects claims that the United States could arrest the head of state. He calls the remarks politically motivated and absurd, following confirmation of Tinubu’s participation in the UN General Assembly, according to Channels Television.

Ademola Oshodi, special adviser to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on foreign affairs and protocol, has rejected claims that the United States could arrest the Nigerian head of state. He described the speculation as “pure nonsense” and a politically motivated attack in an interview with Channels Television.

The statement came after the Nigerian presidency confirmed that Bola Tinubu would not be physically present at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Ademola Oshodi said no sitting head of state would be arrested by the United States, citing former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, among others. Vice-President Kashim Shettima will instead lead the Nigerian delegation to the UN.
