Three suspects have been arrested after the killing of a couple accused of witchcraft in Tabga/Dogon Ruwa village, in Nigeria’s Plateau State. The victims, Abdullah Adamu, 58, and his wife Habiba Ibrahim, 45, were attacked in their community in Bashar District, according to security sources cited by Zagazola Makama.
Soldiers from Sector 2 of Operation Enduring Peace arrested the three suspects at about 11:50 p.m. on 4 November after being alerted to the killings. Two of them were identified as Hussaini Mallam Yusufu, 22, and Ishaku Sule, 24, while the identity of the third was not disclosed, according to the same sources.
Initial investigations indicate that one of the suspects allegedly said he had dreamed that Habiba Ibrahim was a witch who planned to attack him. He allegedly invoked the dream to explain the attack on the couple, according to the security sources.
The three suspects remain in custody and are undergoing profiling as the investigation continues, according to the sources. Authorities are notably seeking to establish each person’s role in the killings.
The arrests come after several security operations in Plateau State, including the arrest on 2 November of a suspect with cannabis by Nigerian soldiers in Plateau.
