Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel Alameda, 30, died on 3 November after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a second-division match, report Ivoire Actu, Nile Post and Africa Top Sports. CD Tenerife announced his death after he was hospitalised; Real Madrid and FC Barcelona later sent condolences to his family, according to Africa Top Sports.
The collision occurred when Tenerife and FC Andorra were level at 2-2, in the seventh minute of added time. Jesús Owono, Andorra’s Equatorial Guinean goalkeeper, had come out of his area to clear a long ball when his knee struck Jesús de Miguel, who remained motionless on the pitch. The referee showed him a straight red card and suspended the match, reports Nile Post, citing BBC Sport.
The player suffered head and chest injuries before being taken by ambulance to Santa Cruz de Tenerife hospital. Marca and other Spanish media reported that he suffered cardiac arrest in the ambulance, followed by resuscitation by emergency services. CD Tenerife initially described his condition as “serious but stable” before announcing neurological deterioration, according to Nile Post. Africa Top Sports specifies that he died after the cardiac arrest and collapse resulting from the collision.
Players from both teams, including several of De Miguel’s tearful teammates, were deeply affected by the scene. Andorra, its president Gerard Piqué and his former club Castellón offered their condolences to his family and loved ones. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona also published messages of support, honouring the player’s memory and sending their thoughts to those close to him, according to Africa Top Sports.
Born in Madrid, Jesús de Miguel began his career at Leganés in 2015 and played for eight Spanish clubs. He scored 16 goals for Castellón during the club’s promotion to the second division, then 11 goals in 29 appearances for Tenerife since joining in 2025. He leaves behind a daughter, Carla, born in 2025, according to Nile Post.
