US voters will elect 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 senators and 36 governors on Tuesday, 3 November, in the midterm elections. The vote is expected to measure President Donald Trump’s popularity and determine which party will control Congress, according to Tuko.
Members of the House of Representatives are elected for two-year terms, while senators serve six-year terms. The 35 Senate seats contested this year include 33 seats up for election in the regular cycle and two special elections.
Polling stations are due to start opening at around 2pm East African Time, with hours varying between states. The result will determine Donald Trump’s ability to pass his agenda during the remainder of his term, against the Democrats led by Barack Obama and Kamala Harris, according to Tuko.
The vote follows US Democrats’ bid for a “blue wave” against Trump, while Americans have begun voting to control Congress.
