Trump says operations against Iranian leaders will be suspended

Donald Trump says Iran asked for operations targeting its leaders to stop and that the United States will suspend the killings. The US president also claimed victory in the war against Tehran on the eve of the 3 November midterm elections, according to statements reported by La Nouvelle Tribune.

Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States would stop killing Iranian leaders, after Tehran asked it to do so. “Iran asked us to stop killing its leaders. We will do so,” the US president said on the eve of the 3 November midterm elections, La Nouvelle Tribune reports.

Donald Trump also claimed victory in the conflict between Washington and Tehran, saying the United States had “waged war on Iran” and “won”. He had already announced on 24 October that strikes would be suspended to determine which Iranian officials to negotiate with.

The US president had previously said that attacks would be suspended until the midterm elections. The conflict began on 28 February with US-Israeli strikes which, according to La Nouvelle Tribune, killed Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei. Talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz are under way between Iran and Washington, according to discussions on the Strait of Hormuz.
