Dreamyard Prep School students held a silent march in the Bronx on 2 November after the shooting death of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian high school student. Protesters called for justice and stronger action against guns and school bullying, Mali Actu reports.
Students at Dreamyard Prep School in the Bronx, New York, paid tribute on Monday 2 November to Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian high school student who was shot dead near his school. They took part in a silent march and held signs calling for “Justice for Javits”, according to Mali Actu.
The teenager’s father, Thomas Frimpong, says his son had repeatedly been bullied, and that this had already been reported to school officials. New York police are searching for three teenagers seen in surveillance footage, while students are calling for stronger action against firearms and school bullying, according to Mali Actu.
The march followed Javits Frimpong’s death after he was shot on 30 October at about 9.30am in the Claremont neighbourhood. He had arrived from Ghana a year earlier with plans to become a doctor and died at St Barnabas Hospital. His mother, who lives in Ghana, obtained an emergency visa to attend the funeral in New York, as previously reported in the granting of a visa to Javits Frimpong’s mother.
