Six members of the same family remained in captivity after seven people were abducted during a night attack in Angwan Sarki Kaso, in the Kakau area of Kaduna State. The attackers surrounded at least four houses at about 11pm on Wednesday, while residents were sleeping, according to Nigerian daily Leadership.

Women and children were among those abducted. A young man was later released, while the other six victims remained detained. Adams Sule and Jonah Baba, secretary to the village head of Kaso, confirmed the attack to Leadership.

The attackers fired shots, causing panic in the community. Some residents managed to escape, but several were injured. Jonah Baba said repeated abductions were keeping residents in fear.

The attack follows the abduction of 21 villagers in Nigeria, reported on 4 November, amid a resurgence of abductions in the country.
