The Alliance des Forces du Progrès is calling on Senegalese opposition parties to form a “broad front”, according to its secretary-general Mbaye Dione. The party wants to play a leading role in it and says it remains opposed to the regime, ahead of territorial and legislative elections, according to Dakaractu.

The Alliance des Forces du Progrès (AFP), a Senegalese opposition party, is calling for the formation of a “broad opposition front” ahead of the next territorial and legislative elections, according to Dakaractu. Its secretary-general, MP Mbaye Dione, said the AFP intends to play a leading role in the grouping, win the maximum number of local authorities and contribute to a majority in the National Assembly.

Mbaye Dione said the party's bodies had reaffirmed its position in opposition to the KIIRAAY-Pastef regime. He believes Senegal is experiencing an “economic slump” and cites in particular the rejection of the 2026 supplementary finance bill, the attempt to withdraw the 2027 initial finance bill, the high cost of living and the difficulties faced by young people and women.

The call for a grouping comes after the AFP's position on an “organised sabotage” attributed to the majority, published on 7 November. It also follows the call by Minister Abdourahmane Diouf, on 2 November, for the formation of a “republican arc”.
