The Malian government has mobilised 74 trucks and 21 buses to organise the repatriation of 15,000 people deported from gold-mining areas in Guinea. The prime minister asked for people to be gathered at the Kouremalé border to facilitate evacuations, according to the Malian government.
The Malian government chartered around 100 trucks on Saturday 7 November to organise the evacuation of people deported from gold-mining areas in Guinea. A group of 50 trucks was awaiting departure and a first convoy of 47 buses had arrived in Burkina Faso, according to the Malian Prime Minister’s Office.
The Malian prime minister asked for the deportees to be gathered at the Kouremalé border to organise the evacuations without causing difficulties in the capital. He also tasked CECOGEC, the Malian crisis coordination and management centre, with publishing a daily bulletin on the operations, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
A field visit is scheduled for Sunday 8 November to assess the operations carried out and future needs, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. The government must also establish the number of Malians among those deported from Guinea.
The operation follows the arrival of nearly 80,000 people in Mali from Guinea, announced on 6 November. It also follows Mali’s renewed support on 7 November for Burkinabè expelled from Guinea, as part of efforts to manage these arrivals at the border.
