West and Central African customs administrations meet in Liberia to strengthen intelligence sharing against smuggling and transnational crime. The Sierra Leonean tax authority delegation is led by John B. Amara, according to the official’s statements at the meeting.
A delegation from the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Sierra Leone’s tax and customs administration, took part in a regional meeting on customs intelligence sharing in Liberia. The five-day meeting, held in Margibi County, brought together customs officials and security experts from West and Central Africa to strengthen the fight against cross-border smuggling and organised crime.
The Sierra Leonean delegation was led by John B. Amara, Commissioner for Border Control Management at the NRA. He said intelligence sharing should enable customs administrations to improve their response to cross-border threats. The NRA notably wants to strengthen its capacity at key entry points, including the Jendema post on the border with Liberia, in line with the standards of the World Customs Organisation’s regional intelligence liaison offices.
