SADC ministers want to make the organisation's liaison office in Madagascar operational to support the return to constitutional order. They see the mechanism as a way to strengthen regional engagement and support an inclusive refoundation, according to the Times of Eswatini.
Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have called for the organisation's liaison office in Madagascar to become operational in order to strengthen its efforts to restore constitutional order in the country. The call was made during an extraordinary virtual meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, chaired by Eswatini's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu, reports the Times of Eswatini.
The ministers presented the office as a mechanism intended to support an inclusive refoundation and peace efforts in Madagascar. They also called for cooperation with the Malagasy government, the African Union and international partners to support the political transition.
The meeting brought together, among others, delegations from Lesotho and Malawi, respectively the incoming and outgoing chairs of SADC's security organ. Prince Sicalo had chaired the preparatory meeting of senior officials before the ministerial discussions.
