Kenyan President William Ruto announces the extension of the Rironi-Mau Summit dual carriageway to Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu and Malaba, as well as the construction of 180 kilometres of roads in Nyamira County. He made the promises on Sunday at a rally in Nyamira, according to Citizen Digital.
Kenyan President William Ruto announced on Sunday that the Rironi-Mau Summit dual carriageway would be extended to Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu and the Malaba border, at a rally in Nyamaiya, Nyamira County, according to Citizen Digital. “We have decided to extend the Rironi-Mau Summit carriageway to Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu and Malaba so that this region can experience economic growth,” the head of state said.
Mr Ruto also promised 180 kilometres of roads in Nyamira County, including the Tombe-Magombo, Eronge, Amabuko-Manga, Manga-Mote Momwamu and Kemera-Keumbu roads, and more than 15 billion shillings for the expansion of the local road network. He mentioned modernising the region's tea factories, connecting the factories to electricity, building a stadium in Nyamira for 1 billion shillings, and upgrading Nyamira Hospital to level 5 with 1.7 billion shillings, as well as an equivalent allocation for Kisii Hospital. According to him, more than 381,000 Nyamira residents, or 65%, are enrolled in SHA, Kenya's public health insurance scheme.
The president also said the SGR railway line would be extended from Naivasha to Kisumu and Malaba via Nyamira, and promised to complete Kisii Stadium before next April. He hit back at his critics, accusing them of having no projects. The tour of the Gusii region follows his promises of projects in the strongholds of Kalonzo Musyoka on 24 October, as the opposition plans to field a single candidate against him in 2027.
