Tanzania launches an industrial programme with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization covering 2026-2031. It is to boost local resource processing, investment, skills, innovation and market access under Vision 2050, according to TanzaniaInvest.

Tanzania launched on 3 November in Dodoma an industrial development programme covering 2026-2031 with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The Country Partnership Programme (PCP) will be implemented on mainland Tanzania and in Zanzibar to support the industrial objectives of Tanzania's Development Vision 2050, according to TanzaniaInvest.

The programme is to coordinate public institutions, businesses, development partners and financial institutions around investment, industrial policy and financing. It notably aims to improve the investment climate, industrial governance and skills, as well as promote technology, innovation, trade and market access.

Agriculture, livestock, fisheries, forestry and mining are identified as sources of raw materials for local processing. UNIDO also plans to support cleaner production, sustainable energy and more efficient use of resources, according to TanzaniaInvest.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dennis Londo said increased processing of raw materials could create jobs, raise incomes, reduce dependence on imports and increase exports. UNIDO representative in Tanzania Lorence Marielle Ansermet announced technical support for the programme's priorities. Tanzania and UNIDO had signed the PCP in Vienna on 22 June 2026, following a request from the Tanzanian government.
