TANESCO temporarily restores electricity in Tanzania

TANESCO, Tanzania's state electricity company, has built a temporary overhead line to maintain power supplies to Mbagala, Kigamboni, Mkuranga and Kibiti after a fault on a 132 kV underground line. The solution is to ensure continuity of service during repairs, its director general Lazaro Twange said.

State electricity company Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has urgently built a temporary overhead line to restore electricity supplies to customers in Mbagala, Kigamboni, Mkuranga and Kibiti, affected by a fault that occurred on 3 November 2026 on a 132-kilovolt underground line in the Gongolamboto area. The information was provided by TANESCO director general Lazaro Twange during an inspection of the work on 7 November 2026.

The emergency overhead line crosses the area of the modern railway infrastructure (SGR) to compensate for the damaged section of the underground network and maintain electricity supplies while repairs continue. “We are pleased to see that our experts have been able to build another overhead route crossing the SGR area so that electricity can continue to reach our customers while work is under way on the underground line,” Lazaro Twange said, praising the company's technicians.

The director general said TANESCO is continuing to strengthen its infrastructure and seek solutions to limit the impact of technical incidents on subscribers, with customer satisfaction and service reliability being priorities. Technical teams were still completing the connection and full commissioning of the temporary system, an operation carried out according to safety procedures.
