Rwanda planted 2,238 tree seedlings across eight hectares in Gahanga Sector, Kicukiro, to launch the 2026-2027 tree-planting and forestry season. More than 5,000 residents, security personnel and partners took part in the operation on Saturday 7 November in Nyabigugu, according to Rwanda Dispatch.

The Rwanda Forestry Authority, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, organised the operation under the theme “My Tree, My Legacy”. Environmental authorities stressed the need to ensure the survival and growth of the seedlings beyond their planting, Rwanda Dispatch reports.

The species planted included Imisave, Umuhumuro, Jacaranda, Umugote and Umufu. Concorde Nsengumuremyi, Director General of the Rwanda Forestry Authority, called on residents to protect the trees from activities that could damage them, while Fidèle Bingwa, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, urged communities to maintain their commitment until the trees reach maturity, according to Rwanda Dispatch.
