Three Rwandan creative-technology platforms won $10,000 in grants at a competition held in Kigali as part of the first Rwanda-Israel Creative Industries and Technology Week. DAJAH Tunes took first place with $5,000, ahead of Sinc Events ($3,000) and Imagine We Creators ($2,000), according to The New Times.

The Rwandan online music platform DAJAH Tunes won $5,000 at a creative-technology start-up competition held in Kigali, ahead of Sinc Events ($3,000) and Imagine We Creators ($2,000), The New Times reports. The three winners thus share $10,000 in grants after a competition bringing together nine local platforms active in music, events, film, publishing, fashion and e-commerce, on Thursday 5 November at Norrsken House in Kigali.

The six-member jury assessed the candidates on their business model, market potential, traction, regulatory compliance, intellectual property and growth prospects. The competition closed the first Rwanda-Israel Creative Industries and Technology Week, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Arts with the Israeli embassy in Rwanda. The participating platforms received training and technical support to strengthen their models, understand regulatory and intellectual property requirements, improve their investment readiness and explore ways to monetise creative work.

The Minister of State for Youth and Arts, Sandrine Umutoni, said the creative economy was becoming a pillar of the country's transformation under Vision 2050 and the second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2). "Internationally, the creative economy is being reshaped by streaming, digital distribution and intellectual property," she said, calling on founders to show how their platforms generate revenue for creators while building sustainable businesses.
