Ethiopia is preparing to deploy a traveller connectivity system developed by Interpol to identify people wanted for terrorism or cross-border crimes. Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael said police were coordinating preparations with immigration services and the aviation sector, according to Fanamc.

Ethiopia is preparing to launch a traveller connectivity system developed by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to identify wanted people and strengthen the fight against cross-border crime. Ethiopian Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael announced on 31 October 2026 that the preparations involved immigration services and the aviation sector.

The system is intended to screen millions of travellers each day and identify suspects wanted for terrorism or other international crimes. It is also expected to help law enforcement track terrorist activities and criminal operations across different modes of transport, according to Demelash Gebremichael.

The Ethiopian Federal Police and Interpol have already carried out a coordinated operation that led to the arrest and extradition to Ethiopia of a suspect. Addis Ababa has also facilitated the extradition to other countries of people wanted for transnational crimes, in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
