Ethiopia is preparing an education programme to teach pupils, from nursery to secondary school, about the Victory of Adwa and its historical importance. Activities will take place beyond the Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa, according to the Ethiopian News Agency, ENA.

The programme will also cover Ethiopian culture, national identity, unity and the country’s shared history. The memorial is preparing a memorandum of understanding with the Education Bureau of the Addis Ababa administration to facilitate its rollout in schools, said Mekuanent Tilahun, the memorial’s director of studies and research, according to ENA.

A forum dedicated to Adwa is planned for February. The memorial also wants to extend these activities to higher education institutions and organise monthly public discussions on Ethiopian history and sovereignty, according to ENA.
