Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presented Medemer, his philosophy of cooperation, as a bridge between Ethiopia and Russia at the Russia-Africa summit. He linked the Russian translation of his book, published this year, to Russian medical aid provided after the Battle of Adwa, according to Fanamc.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed presented the Russian translation of his book “Medemer” on Thursday 29 October as an extension of a relationship with Russia based on reciprocal exchanges of knowledge. He was speaking in Moscow at the plenary session of the third Russia-Africa summit, according to the Fanamc agency.
Abiy Ahmed linked the publication to a Russian Red Cross mission that came to treat Ethiopians after the Battle of Adwa in 1896 and also translated a medical guide into Amharic. He said the two episodes illustrated his philosophy of “Medemer”, based on synergy, cooperation and the idea that each partner brings something to the other. The book is being published in Russian this year, 130 years after Russian medical knowledge was translated into Amharic, according to his remarks.
The Ethiopian head of government also linked the principle to strengthening national capacities. He cited food, energy and knowledge among the sectors in which Ethiopia is investing, while inviting Russian institutions and companies to contribute to the development of agricultural equipment and processing. His remarks came after the presentation of the Russian edition of Medemer, dedicated to cooperation between the two countries.
