Kenyan police seized 454 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth an estimated 3.6 billion shillings (about $28 million) in Kwale County and arrested three foreign nationals, the National Police Service (NPS) announced. One suspect was intercepted in Tanzania on Thursday 5 November 2026 before being handed over to Kenyan authorities at the Lungalunga-Horohoro border post.
Questioned, the suspect led investigators to Shirazi, in Kingwede village, and then to Ganja La Simba, in Kinondo locality, where the drugs were discovered. The third suspect was arrested at the scene. Two vehicles and a motorcycle were also seized as exhibits. According to the NPS, the operation was ordered by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
The seizure comes two months after 1,024 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth about 8.2 billion shillings were destroyed on 24 September at the Bamburi Cement plant in Mombasa. The consignment had been intercepted in October 2025 by the Kenyan navy aboard the unflagged vessel MV Mashallaah, 630 kilometres off the coast, and six Iranians had been prosecuted, with the support of INTERPOL and US authorities.
