Rural women and farmers’ organisations from 23 African countries are meeting in Niaguis, in Ziguinchor department, to discuss agroecology and family farming. The movement Nous sommes la solution is organising the meeting with support from Thousand Currents.

The pan-African movement Nous sommes la solution (NSS) has launched a meeting on peasant agroecology in Niaguis, in the department of Ziguinchor, bringing together rural women, farmers’ organisations and partners from 23 African countries, according to Seneweb. Participants are expected to align their approaches and strengthen their advocacy for agriculture that respects health, the environment and communities.

NSS president Mariama Sonko presented a shared understanding of the principles of peasant agroecology as a prerequisite for advocacy with public authorities. The meeting, supported by the international organisation Thousand Currents, is due to last several days. The opening took place in the presence of Niaguis sub-prefect Massamba Mbaye.

The meeting follows a debate on land organised by Senegalese rural women in Thionck Essyl on 25 October 2026. On 24 October, Guinean organisations rejected accusations about the Dakar meeting.
