Rufai Oseni criticises Nigerian candidates’ lack of 2027 programmesNumber 10 · Open Government Licence (Royaume-Uni)

Nigerian presenter Rufai Oseni criticised President Bola Tinubu and candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi for not publishing a programme for the 2027 presidential election. He said voters should be able to examine their proposals before the vote, scheduled in less than three months, according to comments reported by Daily Post Nigeria.

Nigerian journalist and presenter Rufai Oseni criticised President Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi over the lack of published manifestos from the main candidates in the 2027 presidential election, according to Nigerian media outlet Daily Post. In a video posted on X, he said voters had still not been informed of their plans less than three months before the election.

Oseni accused political figures of prioritising endorsements and defections rather than presenting their programmes. He also compared the situation with that in countries where, he said, candidates publish their manifestos several months before elections so citizens can debate them. Internet users supported his call, while supporters of the candidates considered the publication of programmes premature.

Tinubu is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Atiku Abubakar represents the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The controversy comes as the APC recently defended Tinubu’s electricity pledge against Atiku, in an exchange over the electricity pledge.
