In Nigeria, Nigerian Democratic Congress official Iliya Abdullahi accuses Peter Obi of favouring Alfred Ali Dapal in the dispute over the party’s nomination for the Plateau State governorship election. The quarrel pits Dapal against Da Jonathan Sunday Akuns, recognised as the candidate by the party’s national chairman, according to Daily Post Nigeria.
Comrade Iliya Abdullahi, a senior official of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Plateau State, accuses Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, of taking sides in the dispute over the NDC’s governorship nomination. He criticises Obi’s apparent closeness to Alfred Ali Dapal, according to Daily Post.
The dispute pits Dapal against Da Jonathan Sunday Akuns, whom the NDC national chairman has repeatedly presented as the party’s recognised candidate. On 15 September 2026, Plateau NDC chairman Solomon Ndam designated Dapal as the preferred candidate after a substitute primary. Dapal subsequently launched legal proceedings challenging Akuns’ claim to the nomination.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Abdullahi said the position attributed to Obi risked weakening the party’s structure in the state and Akuns’ candidacy. Dapal had previously taken part in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary in Plateau State before joining the NDC following the PDP’s internal crisis.
